The Challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it a resultant spike in public demand for context, clarity and reassurance from civic leaders. When the City of Wetaskiwin called us, they were looking for ways to maintain regular service levels, relieve overburdened staff, and distill ever-shifting COVID-19 information into a trusted community-focused resource.

The Solution

We began our engagement by investing our time in attending regular sitreps with the City’s leadership team. This insight laid the foundation for a crisis comms program that included a microsite, opt-in email notification system and downloadable resources. We then curated volumes of important and ever-changing news, regulations and resources to these new channels. A vanity URL was created to make the portal simple and memorable.

The Result

Since our April launch of Wetaskiwin’s COVID-19 portal, we’ve provided daily content updates; research, design and writing services; and strategic counsel. With a clear and cohesive pandemic communications program in place, the City is now equipped to navigate the complexities of COVID-19 while continuing to meet the day-to-day needs of its constituents.

The Tangent team continues to steward this municipal COVID-19 portal and related touchpoints, helping the City keep its citizens safe and informed. Visit wetaskiwin.ca/covid-19 to view the portal in action.
